Jim Hodson photographer

I began my photographic career twenty-five years ago. I believed then as I do now that it is an important tool to influence people.

Either gentle or harsh, the image challenges our concept of reality. It can alter or reaffirm an opinion. But good photography, like any good art, influences an emotion. It can protest against or it can promote in equal measure. Either way it should 'stir' something inside, otherwise it requires explanation. My personal choice is the moving elements of Munch against the urban landscapes of Lowry, the portraits with emotion by Julia Margaret Cameron against the stilted by August Sander and the humanist work of W. Eugene Smith as opposed to the mountains of Ansel Adams.

In short - people. "It takes all sorts" - let's revel in it.
